Bridgedale Launches New Lycra® Dry Trail Run Socks for Spring 2021

By Anna Nikolaus From SNEWS

Bridgedale Lycra® Dry Comfort Trail Run Sock

Working closely with a team of thirty amateur enthusiast trail runners, Bridgedale’s new collection brings long-lasting fit with the comfort of dry feet.

After 18 months of rigorous testing, tweaking and redeveloping, the final collection was selected and signed off by the runners. Matt, one of the testers, with thirty plus years of trail running says “Years of poor sock performance and disappointment of many sock brands tested in every weather and bad terrain have led me to re-discover the quality, resilience and performance of Bridgedale running socks. They really are unbeatable. “

The new trail run sock collection delivers on Bridgedale’s commitment to create new and innovative socks, while ensuring they meet the performance runners have come to expect from Bridgedale. Proprietary T2 anti-shock cushioning and Shock Zones provide extra support and comfort to areas of the foot and leg. Over foot Ventilation promotes easy moisture transportation and breathability.

The new Lycra® Dry Comfort Trail Run socks will be available Spring 2021 in six Merino Sport styles in Lightweight T2, Ultralight T2 and four Coolmax® Sport styles Lightweight T2 and Ultralight T2.

Bridgedale’s Midweight Boot Merino Performance socks are one of the most durable and comfortable options on the market. Ideal for long or multi-day excursions, these socks have a blend of new wool, merino wool, and three other fabrics that are specifically designed for padding, moisture-wicking, and resilience. They protect ankles from blistering, and even when wet, they hold their shape and bounce-back to dryness quickly. Best of all, the socks always return to their original size after every wash.

Trail Runner – First Look: Waterproof Stormsock by Bridgedale

For those rowdy days with many stream crossings, these socks keep feet dry, eliminating the need for carrying additional pairs.

The Bridgedale Lighweight Ankle Stormsock is ideal for outdoor activities in which breathability is necessary and minimal insulation is required. The waterproof, windproof and breathability features of the Stormsock make it ideal for endurance days when you are running or hiking on wet ground or traversing through low stream crossings. The durable outer nylon layer combined with the inner Merino wool layer manages moisture while preventing unwanted odors and bacteria, keeping the feet warm and dry.

Due to their length, the Ankle Stormsock may ingress water after extended time in wet weather or when submerging the feet in water greater than ankle depth. If this is a concern, check out the boot length version. Additionally, these lighter weight socks have minimal insulation and therefore should be used on warmer days. Bridgedale also carries a variety of socks that are more insulated and longer in length for activities in which warmth is the main concern.

The Stormsock has an elasticated arch and flat toe seam that reduces bunching of the sock and insures they remain in place without causing any irritation of the foot. However, due to their many layers and high level of durability the Stormsock felt slightly bulky in my shoe and did not form to the foot as much as I would prefer.  This is a small price to pay though, for dry, warm, odorless feet!

—Tara Richardson has placed first in the 2018 Collegiate Peaks 25 miler, 2018 Under Armour Mountain Running Series 50K on Copper Mountain, Colorado, 2018 GORE-TEX Grand Traverse Mountain Run and 2018 Under Armour Mountain Running Series 50K in Bend, Oregon. She was runner up in the USATF trail marathon championships and recently qualified for 2020 Olympic Marathon trials. She runs about 70 miles per week. The more uphill the better, she says!

Bridgedale StormSock

Keep your feet dry through the storm.

Bridgedale’s new 100 percent waterproof StormSock collection has been designed and tested to perform to the highest standards in the wettest conditions when hiking, biking, or running, and will keep feet protected from wind, cold and wetness.

They’re made with the latest knitting technology with a HydroTech waterproof, breathable and windproof membrane. This new HydroTech PU membrane allows perspiration to pass to the outer layer of the sock while preventing outside water from getting in.

The StormSock is constructed with three layers of protection.

1. The inner Layer that touches the skin is made with up to 60 percent Merino Wool, which has moisture management properties, combined with wicking synthetic fibers to move perspiration away from the foot. A terry loop underfoot cushion that extends around both the toes and over the heel ensures comfortable feet in wet conditions.

2. The HydroTech™ PU membrane allows perspiration to pass to the outer layer of the sock while preventing outside water from getting in. This Hydrophilic nonporous PU membrane transports perspiration to the outside via solid state diffusion meaning water molecules are carried through the physical membrane as it seeks to maintain heat and humidity equilibrium. This membrane is not affected by foreign object contamination (such as mud, dirt and salts from sweat) unlike the more common microporous membranes commonly found in waterproof clothing. When laminated to the inner and outer layers this midlayer creates a 100 percent waterproof, stretchable and well-fitted sock.

3. The Nylon and Lycra outer layer protects the waterproof sock against abrasion from footwear and provides excellent stretch to ensure the sock is easy to pull on and off and guaranteeing a snug fit.

The StormSock guarantees foot protection and comfort for outdoor adventurers tackling the wettest trails and will be available online and through specialty retailers in North America in fall 2018.

“Bridgedale’s new StormSock collection has been designed and tested to perform to the highest standards in the wettest conditions when hiking, biking or running and will keep feet protected from wind, cold and wetness,” said Jim Evans, Product Manager for Bridgedale. “The 100% waterproof StormSock guarantees foot protection and comfort for outdoor adventurers tackling the wettest trails.”

The Bridgedale StormSock is constructed with three layers of protection. The inner Layer that touches the skin is made with 60% Merino Wool that’s known for its anti-odor properties, combined with wicking synthetic fibers to move perspiration away from the foot. A terry loop underfoot cushion that extends around both the toes and over the heel ensures comfortable feet in wet conditions. Bridgedale Unveils its First Waterproof Sock Range for Outdoor Fans

From Grough.co.uk by Bob Smith

Bridgedale-Storm-waterproof-1200-682x1024-1Outdoors sock specialist Bridgedale has developed its first waterproof range.

The Storm sock collection will be in shops from May and uses a HydroTech membrane to keep the user’s feet dry.

Bridgedale said the new Storm range has been designed and tested to perform to the highest standards in the wettest conditions when hiking, biking or running.

“Continuing to build on Bridgedale’s century-long sock making heritage, the 100 percent waterproof Storm sock guarantees foot protection and comfort on the wettest trails,” it said. “Even though Bridgedale has been keeping feet warm, dry and protected for many years, providing a good level of water resistance, this is the brand’s first 100 percent waterproof sock range.

“Using the latest production processes, the Storm sock combines advanced yarn technology with progressive design to ensure the waterproof, extremely breathable and windproof Storm sock never lets down any outdoor enthusiast.”

The construction uses an inner sock with up to 60 per cent merino wool for its anti-bacterial and anti-odour properties, combined with wicking synthetic fibres to deliver a stable temperature and move moisture from the skin’s surface. The lining has a terry loop underfoot cushion that extends around both the toes and over the heel.

Over this, the HydroTech membrane is a waterproof, breathable, high-stretch and windproof permeable membrane, which is laminated to the inner and outer layers

The nylon outer protects the waterproof sock against abrasion from footwear. Lycra provides stretch for a snug, comfortable fit and to prevent the sock falling down during activities. As well as Lycra running through the inner and outer sock, it is also added around the arch of the foot to keep the sock firmly in position, reducing any bunching or rucking inside the shoe or boot that could cause irritation.

The waterproofing rating for the membrane is better than 8,000mm hydrostatic head, and it has a moisture permeability of more than 12,000mg/sq m/24hours.

The socks will come in three lengths: ankle+, boot and knee, and three weights, from lightweight through to heavyweight.

Prices will range from £32 a pair for the lightweight ankle socks to £45 for the knee-length heavyweight version.

More details about US Pricing and availability coming soon.

Bridgedale’s Colin Sanders Rowed Solo Across the Atlantic Ocean

He did it! Colin Sanders, 64, rows solo across the Atlantic Ocean to raise awareness and funds for Community Living

From Community Living Ontario

English Harbour, ANTIGUA – Colin Sanders was greeted by ship horns and a hero’s welcome when his boat entered Antigua’s English Harbour yesterday evening (March 2, 2018) after rowing across the Atlantic Ocean for 83 days.

The resident of Port Hope, Ontario began his journey called A Million Possibilities: Solo Ocean Row 2017 from the Canary Islands’ Puerto de Mogán on December 10th, 2017. Over that time, Sanders endured a capsizing, difficulties with his equipment, and food poisoning, all while rowing the ocean by himself.

“No one is happier to have made it across the ocean than I,” said Sanders, as well-wishers looked on.

“I’m not a spring chicken. I’m 64, so the day-to-day grind of rowing across the Atlantic was probably the toughest challenge for me.”

A Million Possibilities: Solo Ocean Row was also an awareness and fundraising campaign for Community Living Ontario and its member organizations, who raised a combined $145,500. Sanders’ adult son, Jeff, is supported by Community Living Campbellford/Brighton in Cobourg, Ontario.

“More people have been to space than have rowed across the Atlantic Ocean by themselves. Colin’s adventure illustrates that we can all achieve great things with adequate preparation, the proper support and sheer determination,” said Ron Laroche, Director of Communications, Marketing and Fund Development for Community Living Ontario.

John Beeden was also on hand for Sanders’ arrival. Beeden, who has crossed the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans on his own, sold the ocean row boat to Sanders.

Sanders has been chronicling his journey with regular blog posts, which are available by visiting www.soloatlanticrow2017.com.

A Million Possibilities: Solo Ocean Row 2017 was generously sponsored by Ocean’s, Nite Ize, CSBT, McDougall Insurance and Financial, Frank Cowan Company, and Bollin Group Inc (Bridgedale.)

CONGRATULATIONS Colin!! Well Done!
